Dr. Lisa Scheppers was guest on News Extra Tuesday morning. She was here to tell us all about the "Hospitalist" program at Regional West Medical Center.
Although a relatively new discipline, hospitalist programs are beginning to spring up around the country as a concrete way to enhance the care of hospitalized patients. Hospitalist programs offer many benefits for both the patient and their primary care and subspecialist physicians.
A hospitalist is typically a board certified internal medicine physician, although sometimes a family practitioner, who dedicates all of his or her time to caring for patients in the hospital setting. Their service is 24/7 which allows for a very close interaction with the patient, fast access and prompt action in the course of the patient’s hospitalization. Since they spend all their time at the hospital they can be at the patient’s bedside within minutes. A hospitalist physician is available to the patient and family as needed at any time.
The hospitalist concept allows the on-site physician to see patients as needed during their hospitalization. That means treatment can be adjusted based on test results and progress, making sure the patient has an appropriate length of stay. A more hands-on approach to care can also allow a provider to respond more quickly to any complications that arise. In addition, once your provider and care team feels you are well enough to be discharged, that process can be started in a timely fashion.

Bill Peters was guest on News Extra Wednesday morning promoting the Casey Donahew Band's Kick-Off Concert for Oregon Trail Days, which will be held on the Saturday prior to Oregon Trail Days. The concert will be at Gering's Five Rocks Amphitheater on Saturday, July 7th.
If you build it, they will come. This might be the mantra of one of the greatest baseball movies of all time, ‘”Field Of Dreams,” but it’s also a pretty accurate description of the career of Texas music sensation Casey Donahew. The band’s lead guitarist is J.J. Soto, son of Larry Soto, leader of the local band the Drivin’ Dynamics. “I’ve just always liked the country songs from the 80’s,” says Casey. “It seems like a time when there was a lot of great songwriting going on, and I just enjoy people who can tell a story with a song."

From the straight-shooting, hilarity of the leadoff single, “Double Wide Dream,”
a redneck’s declaration of love for his hot mess of a wife, to the
heartfelt twist of “Give You A Ring,” and the hotter-than-a-jalapeno,
Texas-tinged smoker, “One Star Flag,” the tunes on this new CD cover a
broad range of material and emotions and showcase a maturity that can
only be achieved through lots of living, loving, & losing. For
Casey, it’s OK to laugh, have a good time & let your hair down, as
in the case of the hilarious title track, or “White Trash Story II - The
Deuce,” a continuation of the tune that has become a fan sensation
& instant singalong during his shows.
