Community Christian School Foundation Run/Walk promoted

Dana Weber and Larrie Massie were guests on News Extra Monday morning to promote a big event coming up for the Community Christian School Foundation.   They are sponsoring the 2nd annual CCS Fun Run/Walk scheduled for July 28, 2012.  Registration for this event can be done anytime on the web site www.ccsneb.com under the Foundation tab or the day of the event beginning at 6:15 AM at Community Christian School 511 W 14th Street, Scottsbluff.  The walk/run will begin at 7:00 AM.  All runners, walkers and good-hearted contributors are invited. Proceeds go to the scholarship and education grant funds of the Community Christian School Foundation to provide tuition financial assistance and grants to teachers for educational and classroom projects.

The event will consist of a 2-mile adult and children family fun walk, a 5-mile timed race and a two or four-person 10-mile relay. There are seven age divisions, including children and seniors. Medals will be awarded to the top two finishers in each division and overall men’s and women’s runners.

Advance registration is encouraged.  Entry forms are available at Community Christian School, 511 W 14th, Scottsbluff, and at several local business locations, or register online or the morning of the event beginning at 6:15 AM. T-shirts will be given to all who register online or pre-register by July 26, 2012, and as supplies last on the day of the event. Entry fees are $7 for children under 10; $20 for individuals; and $18/per team relay member.

Community Christian School has operated since 1988 at the old Bryant Elementary School on 14th Street in Scottsbluff.  CCS is a privately funded, inter-denominational pre-school through 8th grade school that bases its full curriculum on biblical principles. Since 1988, CCS has graduated more than 250 students and the school has seen a 16% increase in enrollment since 2006. Community Christian School was also the school home for 10 international students during the 2011-2012 school year.  The school has been competitive in academics and sports, including Quiz Bowl, Math Counts, Spelling, Geography and Bible bees, and Jr. High volleyball, football, boys and girls basketball and track.

In April 2011, school leaders announced plans to purchase 35 acres at the intersection of Five Rocks Road and M Street in Gering as a new school building site for future needs. A $25,000 purchase option payment was provided by Community Christian School Foundation with another $61,000 committed by school board members. The balance of approximately $250,000 is needed by December 2012 to complete the land purchase. Tax-free donations are being accepted through the school’s “Raise it Up” campaign. To contribute to the CCS building fund or for more information, contact Principal Mr. Chris Geary at Community Christian School at 632-2230.
