Tickets for SHS Shrek the Musical go on sale Feb 3

Scottsbluff High School will be adding an option this year for those wishing to purchase tickets online.  Tickets to SHREK THE MUSICAL will be available beginning February 3rd at www.ronne.com.   Patrons will be able to see a seat map and choose their own seats for the show.  Tickets will be mailed out ($1.75 postage fee) or customers can instead choose at checkout to print the tickets at home for free.  “We had many requests to begin online sales the last couple of years.  This will give our patrons flexibility in purchasing tickets,”  said Brad Ronne, Scottsbluff Vocal Music Instructor.  “With the online presence, we have the flexibility to begin sales much earlier.  This gives patrons an opportunity to purchase tickets anytime,” said Ronne.

Tickets will still be available to be purchased in person at Scottsbluff High School.  Seats can be purchased at the High School West lobby February 3rd through 5th  from 4:00-6:00 PM.  This coincides with the start of online sales.  From February 6th to March 23rd, the box office will close and tickets will only be available online.  In person sales at the high school will resume in addition to the online sales March 24th and run weekdays (4-6 PM) until April 2nd.  The performances run April 3-5 at 7 PM.

Tickets are $10 each.  The company that hosts the ticket distribution adds a $.45 per ticket administration fee to all tickets sold, including in person sales.  The high school will also be accepting credit or debit cards both online and at the box office.  There is a small transaction fee for those who choose to use credit or debit.
SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!

Thrasher Music Donates 2 Cort Guitars to be autographed by John Michael Montgomery & auctioned off at concert

Steve Thrasher, of Thrasher Music, donates two new Cort guitars, to be autographed by John Michael Montgomery and auctioned off, one at each concert.

Executive Director Billy Estes says, “We are super excited to work with Steve on this; his generous donation to the Midwest Theater will help raise funds for our student preforming arts education programming. This is a great opportunity for our community to own a little piece of history from the Midwest Theater and John Michael Montgomery. Helberg & Nuss is donating their auctioneer services.  With less than 180 tickets remaining for the Feb 13th concert, I would suggest purchasing your tickets soon to get in on this opportunity.”

John Michael Montgomery, platinum-selling country music artist with more than 30 country music hits between 1992 and 2009 and eleven studio albums, will perform on Valentine’s Day at the Historic Midwest Theater Thursday Feb 13 & February 14, 2014 at 8:00 pm. Montgomery sells out arenas, but now he will perform an acoustic show “up close and personal” at the Midwest Theater.

Since the days when “Life’s A Dance” turned Montgomery from an unknown artist into a national star, John Michael’s rich baritone has carried that most important of assets - believability. Few artists in any genre sing with more heart than this handsome Kentucky-born artist.

Songs like “I Swear,” “I Love the Way You Love Me” and “I Can Love You Like That” resonate across the musical landscape - pop, rock, and country charts. His 2004 hit “Letters From Home” is one of the most moving tributes to the connection between soldiers and their families ever recorded and “The Little Girl,” is a tale of redemption that plumbs both the harrowing and the uplifting. Songs like "Rope The Moon," "If You've Got Love," "No Man's Land," "Cowboy Love," "As Long As I Live," "Friends" and "How Was I To Know" establish him as one of the elite acts of the era. He received the CMA Horizon award and was named the ACM's Top New Vocalist, setting off a long series of awards that included the CMA's Single and Song of the Year, Billboard's Top Country Artist, and a Grammy nomination. Pure fun finds its ways into John Michael’s repertoire - songs like “Be My Baby Tonight” and “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)” that express earnestness and musical whimsy.

NRD Cost Share programs being reviewed

Dave Wolf and Roy Lyles from the North Platte Natural Resources District were guests on KNEB's News Extra program Wednesday morning.

Conservation Cost-Share Programs are currently being reviewed, and they would like to hear from constituents on how they might improve them.

These programs help NRD accomplish their statutory mission to help conserve, protect, develop and manage the natural resources of the District by providing financial incentives to landowners to protect soil and other resources.

Most of these programs provide a reimbursement to landowners for a portion of the costs they may incur in making improvements to protect resources on their property.

These programs are funded by District resources as well as Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Program (NSWCP) funds appropriated from the State Legislature.

More information on these and other NRD programs can be found on their website, www.npnrd.org.

Village Residents Receive Christmas Gifts from Anonymous “Angel”

The Village at Regional West enjoyed a joyful Christmas season, with carolers from local churches and organizations singing to residents from door to door, and many other fun activities.

Residents of the Assisted Living Unit enjoyed the second annual free Christmas shopping event, which was held in the commons area. Village staff members donated new and gently used items, which were displayed so residents could shop in the comfort of The Village. All items were free of charge so residents took what they wanted to give as gifts. Students from Community Christian School accompanied the residents while they shopped and then wrapped the gifts, placed name tags, and topped each gift with a bow that was hand-made by a Village employee.

Then, on Christmas Eve, each Assisted Living resident received a special gift from an anonymous Christmas angel. She delivered handmade quilts, which she was inspired to make because her grandmother always enjoyed warming her hands under her special quilt. This “Christmas angel” not only warmed the residents’ laps, but warmed all of their hearts with her special gift.

Mayo cites urgency to site landfill

Gering Mayor Ed Mayo says the city needs to work aggressively to get a new landfill sited.

Gering council members have approved an agreement for a 6 year option to purchase more than 460 acres of land from the Weinhold family east of Gering. Now the regulatory process begins and the testing and analysis of soil and water at the proposed site.

Mayo, our guest on KNEB's News Extra program, says even though there are new rules, there is "an urgency" to get the new landfill sited despite the recent construction of cell six at the old landfill. Mayo notes if the area has a few major hail storms, the planned lifespan of cell six will be shortened.

Mayo says he believes the new landfill can get sited in six years, but it also could take much longer if there are regulatory delays.
